Cebu – Tourist Attractions and Things to do in Cebu Philippines

Cebu Tourist Attractions

Cebu SkylineCebu is a thriving metropolis with a wide variety of things to see and do.  Find below the comprehensive list of the things to do and places to visit in Cebu City and the surrounding area’s.  Cebu City is the second largest city in the Philippines, obviously on the Island of Cebu.

This page will be the last one you will need to find anything to do with Cebu tourism.

The Sinulog Festival

The Sinulog celebration lasts for nine days,  on the last day there is the  Sinulog Grand Parade.  The day before the parade, the Fluvial Procession is held at dawn with a statue of the

Sinulog Festival

Santo Niño carried on a pump boat from Mandaue  to Cebu, decorated with hundreds of flowers and candles. The procession ends at the Basilica where a re-enactment of the Christianizing (that is, the acceptance of Roman Catholicism) of Cebu is performed.  In the afternoon, a more solemn procession takes place along the major streets of the city, which last for hours due to large crowds taking part.

It is a party atmosphere from start to finish, everyone is having a good time.  The music seems to go around the clock, so put on your party boots if you are in Cebu in Mid January.

Taoist Temple Cebu

Toaist Temple Cebu

Built in 1972, the Cebu Taoist Temple is located in Beverly Hills Subdivision in Cebu, Philippines.  Built by Cebu’s Chinese community.  With an elevation of 300 meters above sea level, the temple is a towering, multi-tiered, attraction accessible by several winding routes.

The Taoist temple is open to all, worshipers and tourists.  A ritual among attendee’s is where one prays to the gods to grant one’s wish.   The ritual begings by washing of hands, entering the chapel barefoot and dropping two blocks of wood. If the blocks of wood both land face up then one could make a wish.  If they don’t then it is not yet time and you would have to return at a later date to try again.

Photo opportunities are abundant in this spectacular tourist attraction.  The easiest way to get there would be to catch a taxi, maybe ask the driver to wait for the return trip.  For a couple of hundred peso the driver would gladly have a nap and wait.

The Sky Experience – Crown Regency Hotel and Towers

Sky Experience Zip line

This is not for the faint of heart.  You could go for the zip line between towers 40 stories up in the air, just when you think its over, you turn around automatically and return uphill to where you came from.  I you relax and have faith the safety equipment will hold, the view is simply spectacular.

Sky Experience Edge Coaster

The edge coaster is a roller coaster the runs around the outside of the building, again scary as hell but if you like a good “rush” go for it – awesome.

Sky Experience Sky Walk

If you would rather a less seemingly dangerous time try the sky walk, connected to a safety line you get to walk around the building taking in the brilliant sights of  the city.

Fort San Pedro

Fort San Pedro

Fort San Pedro is the smallest and oldest Spanish fort in the country.  It was built in 1565 by Miguel Lopez de Legaspi and served as the core of Spanish settlement in the Philippines. The fort is triangular in shape, with two sides facing the sea and the third side fronting the land. The two sides facing the sea were defended with artillery and the side with a strong palisade made of wood.  There is a lot of information inside with many photos describing  history of Cebu and the Fort …   I love that sort of thing so I enjoyed every minute.  There is a small Museum in the Fort but you will have to time it right to find it open.

Great photo opportunities and centuries of history to learn.  Great day.

Basilica Santa Nino – 16th Century Roman Catholic Church

This one of the oldest churchs in The Philippines is devoted to Santo Nino that is the most popular symbol of Cebu City. According to the legends, it was a powerful deity of the colonial period and was generally known by the name of Captain General. Basilica Minore del Santo Nino is among one of the most famous symbols of the city.  Extremely popular with thousands of local devotees each desperately trying to catch a glimpse of Santa Nino statue.
