Dumaguete City – The Aquatic Adventure Hub Of Negros Oriental in The Philippines

Dumaguete City Philippines is a fantastic place to visit or live, it has the feel of a rural town and all the modern conveniences of a large city.  The best of both worlds.   Dumaguete is also a central location for many spectacular island getaways just a short distance away.

Dumaguete MapJust to name a few, you can quickly motor across to the toe of Cebu and swim with Whale Sharks, from there skip over to Sumilon Island, a mostly uninhabited island only one up market resort, but the beach, coral and wildlife there are fantastic.

Sumilon Island on Native Philippines BoatBohol Island although mainly traveled to from Cebu is also a ferry ride to Tagbilaran.  Siquijor Island, the witch doctor capital of the Philippines is close also.  Apo Island, a tiny little island with a population of only 2500 is brilliant, I have been there 3 times.  Mindanao Ferry’s rum to Cagayan de Oro, Dipolog City and Zamboanga City at the tip of the Zamboanga Peninsula, a “No Go” zone for foreigners.  See Mindanao Page.

Dumaguete is the Southern most major city in the Visayas region and Capital of Negros Oriental (East), and Bacolod is the capital of Negros Occidental (West).

Dumaguete – What Else Can You Do?

Dumaguete has a famous boulevard that is beautiful restaurant strip by day and it comes to life at night.  Hundred’s of people go to the boulevard for an evening walk to talk in the sights and night life.  Dumaguete BoulevardMany of the restaurants put on live shows, souvenir stalls, local food eateries in the street and people gathering on the grassed are having fun.

Dumaguete Why Not BarThe famous “Why Not” bar and disco is half way along the boulevard if you want a “good time”, I much prefer the sports bar next door, to kick back have an ice cold beer and play billiards without anyone “hitting” on you.

Rest assured all walks of life are catered for here in Dumaguete, Robinson,s Mall has many restaurants fashion shops, supermarkets and a movie theater.

Lee plaza in downtown Dumaguete has everything else you may require.  Local markets are available for bargain clothing and the farmers market for fresh produce down from the mountains is a blast to go shop at.  Healthiest home grown fruit and vegies possible and costs only about $10 for two people for the weeks supply.
